Secondary Cleft Surgery

  • Cleft care does not stop after the initial cleft lip and/or palate repair. Children and adults with a cleft often require secondary procedures such as speech surgery, bone grafting, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), jaw surgery, scar revision, and others.
-Cleft rhinoplasty – nose surgery to improve breathing and nasal shape
-Speech surgery – throat and palate surgery to improve speech and make easier to understand
-Bone grafting – surgery to add bone to the gum line to allow for healthy tooth eruption
-Fistula repair – fixing a hole in the roof of the mouth/palate
-Lip scar revision – improves lip shape and scar appearance
-Jaw surgery – surgery to help improve tooth alignment and facial profile
At KCCC, we offer the full spectrum of cleft treatments. Our fellowship-trained plastic surgeon uses the utmost care to optimize the symmetry and function of your child’s smile. Our goal is to help your child look and feel their best throughout their growth and their adulthood.
